Cobalt I/O to outboard conversion, crazy idea or genius move?

I've got a beautiful Cobalt, and I've been toying with a pretty big idea lately. I'm converting it from an I/O to an outboard setup. I'm really looking for some real world input here.

Has anyone ever done this on a Cobalt or a similar high quality runabout? Or does anyone have solid knowledge about what this kind of conversion actually entails?

I'm curious about everything. You know, like feasibility, cost, performance changes, structural challenges, you name it

I'm thinking about it for a few reasons (maintenance, shallow water access, more interior space), but I know it's not a simple swap

Just putting feelers out there before I dive too deep into the rabbit hole!
Any and all insights are hugely appreciated!

Quite a project but doable when done right. The Cobalt is not designed for outboards so you may need to reinforce the transom. And yeah, performance will shift a bit with weight distribution and handling, but many report better shallow water versatility and easier maintenance.

Have you decided if you'll go single or twin outboards? That can really change the layout and handling.
